Classic Lash Extensions Aftercare: Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash Do's and Don'ts (48 Hours)

By Happy Lashes and Cuts | October 16, 2026

If you're in Alameda and you just booked (or you just finished) my Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash (85 minutes), this is the one rule that protects your set: for the first 24 to 48 hours, keep your lashes away from water, steam, heavy sweating, and oils so the adhesive can fully cure and your retention stays strong.

Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash: 48-Hour Aftercare & Do's/Don'ts image

I'm based in the Webster Street commercial corridor, and the pattern is always the same: the people who keep the first two days simple are the ones who tell me their lashes look full, natural, and long-lasting. And I get it, you're busy. If you commute by ferry or BART, or you're heading into a long workday in the fog, you want lashes that are low-maintenance and still look put together.

This guide is straight talk. Quick do's and don'ts, how to clean your lashes without messing them up, and when to schedule your next fill so your volume stays even.

The first 24 to 48 hours: the rules that keep your Glam-Relash intact

Do this

  • Keep your lashes dry. No face splashing, no letting shower water hit your eyes, and skip steamy hot showers if you can.
  • Sleep on your back if possible. If you're a side sleeper, try to keep your lash side off the pillow. Friction is one of the fastest ways to create gaps.
  • Brush lightly with a clean spoolie once a day. Small, gentle strokes. If you don't have one, ask me at your appointment and I'll point you in the right direction.
  • Plan around your schedule. If you know you've got a workout, a swim, or a long hot shower routine, book your Webster Street appointment so the first two days stay calm.

Avoid this

  • No steam: sauna, hot tubs, facial steaming, or hot yoga. Steam softens adhesive while it's curing.
  • No heavy sweating. A light walk is usually fine, but skip intense workouts for 48 hours.
  • No oil-based anything near the eyes. Oil-based makeup removers and eye creams break down lash adhesive, and that's true long after the first 48 hours.
  • No rubbing, picking, or tugging. If a lash feels twisty or out of place, brush it gently. Don't pull it.

Quick note on mascara and curlers: skip both. Mascara adds extra friction when you remove it, and lash curlers can snap extensions or stress your natural lash line.

Days 3 to 7: how to live your life and still keep 3D lashes looking even

After the adhesive is cured, you can get back to normal routines, but good retention still comes down to two things: clean lashes and low friction. This matters a lot for volume sets like 3D lashes because losing a few fans in the same area can look like a little gap sooner than you'd notice with lighter sets.

Keep doing this

  • Clean your lashes regularly with an oil-free lash cleanser. Clean lashes last. That's it.
  • Pat dry, don't rub. If you're using a towel, use the softest part and press lightly.
  • Brush once they're fully dry. Brushing wet lashes can pull on them.
  • Watch your hands. A lot of shedding starts with mindless eye touching during a long workday.

Still avoid this

  • Oil-based eye creams and makeup removers. Even if they don't touch the lashes directly, they migrate.
  • Waterproof makeup around the eyes. It usually takes more rubbing to remove.
  • Sleeping face-down. If you're a stomach sleeper, try a pillow setup that keeps your eyes from grinding into the fabric.
  • Picking at a lash that looks like it's shedding. Natural lashes shed. Let them shed.

A lot of my Alameda clients tell me they love lashes because they hate mascara smudges. Same. Keeping your lash line clean makes that easy, especially if you're running between work, errands, and dinner on Park Street.

My simple oil-free routine that protects lash extensions between fills

You don't need a complicated setup. You need consistency. I'll always pick retention over a drawer full of products.

What I recommend (by type)

  • Oil-free lash cleanser: use it to break down daily oils and makeup residue around the lash line.
  • A clean spoolie: one for your lash bag, one at home. Replace when it's not clean anymore.
  • Lint-free cloth or soft tissue: pat dry only.
  • Oil-free eye products: if you're using eye cream, keep it away from the lash line and check ingredients. Oils tend to shorten retention.

If you use an eyelash serum: let me know what you're using. Some serums are fine, but anything oily or applied right at the base can interfere with your Glam-Relash retention. I'd rather help you adjust placement than have you lose fans early.

And if you found me by searching lashes near me, lash extensions, this part stays the same across the board: clean skin and oil control make every result last longer.

When to text or call me, plus the fill timing that keeps volume consistent

A little awareness goes a long way. Mild tenderness right after your appointment can happen, but redness, pain, swelling, or ongoing irritation is not something to wait out. Reach out to me right away so I can guide you.

For fullness, I usually recommend scheduling your re-lash fill every 2 to 3 weeks. That window keeps your lash line even without doing a full reset. It also fits real life if you're commuting in from Oakland, Berkeley, Piedmont, San Leandro, or Emeryville.

Returning-client note: Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash is for existing Happy Lashes clients. If you're brand new to eyelash extensions, start with an Initial Volume Lash Set so I can build the right base for your natural lashes first.

Quick FAQ for Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash aftercare (the questions I hear every week)

How long before I can get my Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash wet?

I recommend keeping them dry for the first 24 to 48 hours. That means no direct water on the lashes, no steam, and no heavy sweating so the adhesive fully cures.

Can I work out or take a hot yoga class after a Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash?

Skip intense workouts and hot yoga for 48 hours. Sweat and heat can weaken the bond before it finishes curing. After that, you're fine, just keep your lashes clean and avoid rubbing.

Will my eyelash serum interfere with a Glam-Relash?

It can, depending on the formula and where you apply it. Oils near the lash line can shorten retention. Let me know what you're using, and I'll tell you how to apply it so it doesn't fight your lash extensions.

How should I clean my lashes as a returning client after a re-lash?

Use an oil-free lash cleanser, clean gently along the lash line, rinse without blasting the lashes directly, then pat dry. Once they're dry, brush with a clean spoolie. Clean lashes hold better and look fluffier.

When should I schedule my next fill after a Volume Lash HD Glam-Relash?

Plan on a fill every 2 to 3 weeks to keep your volume even. If you wait longer, you usually need more time to rebuild areas where natural shedding has left gaps.

Are 3d lashes the same as classic lash extensions?

Not exactly. Classic lash extensions usually mean one extension per natural lash for a more simple look. 3D lashes are a type of volume set, meaning a small fan is applied to one natural lash for more fullness. If you're not sure what you have, tell me the look you want and I'll guide you.

Need a quick check-in? If something feels off, or you're trying to plan your next appointment around ferry or BART commute times, reach out. I'd rather answer a small question early than have you stress about your lashes.
